UNILAG Stops Discretionary Admissions

The management of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, has said the institution is not offering any admission seeker “discretionary admission opportunities” and has therefore warned the public against falling victim to fraudsters.

In a statement on Thursday by the Head, of the Communication Unit, Alhaja Ajoke Alaga Ibrahim, the university dissociated itself from any group or individual promising anybody such.

“The University of Lagos (UNILAG) hereby categorically disclaims and dissociates itself from any claims, representations, or other communications by any individual or group claiming to offer “discretionary admission opportunities” or special consideration through unofficial channels.

We specifically reiterate that: All admissions to the University of Lagos are conducted strictly through the official channel: Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), in line with guidelines and procedures as stated on our website.

“The University has not, directly or indirectly, authorised any WhatsApp groups, Facebook groups, other social media channels, or third parties to facilitate its admissions exercise. “The University hereby dissociates itself from any proposals, suggestions or invitations to take advantage of connections with admission officials” and unequivocally declares such as duplicitous and outrightly fraudulent.

“The public is hereby put on notice that anyone claiming to offer special admission
consideration in exchange for letters, payments or other consideration is engaging in illicit and fraudulent activity, punishable by law. For the avoidance of doubt, both the giver and receiver of any such dubious consideration is complicit in the offence.

“The University of Lagos will not hesitate to pursue appropriate legal action against individuals or groups engaging in the above unauthorised activities or otherwise holding themselves out as agents, representatives or emissaries to the university for the purpose of securing unauthorised admission through fraudulent channels.

“Please do not fall victim by patronising these rogues. Promptly report any suspicious admission offers or related activities to:
